I thought of you.

They say that if they didn't make fun of you it would mean they didn't like you. From the portrait left in my pigeon-hole, the story of how my absence was sorely missed during the whole poopy pants ordeal, and them calling me on channel 3 with the wannabe DUI last night, I feel very loved.

I ran the plate and timed how long it would take for her to ask me if I was out with that car on three. It shouldn't annoy me, it's good looking out, but it's the delivery I suppose. Gets under the skin. I had pre-planned the conversation we had. Then later on a traffic stop is this one?! he asks my sarge tells me about the car and I tell him that it annoys me how long it's been sitting there, active warrant and all. I give him my theories and he looks at me, patronizingly mischievous look on his face and says I think we have a new goal once we go to day shift. I can't hide my excitement and the geek dance rears its embarrassing head, if only for a moment. And I wonder if they're having as much fun as I am.

I think so.

My Lt. backed me up on one of my stops and the offender was really from Africa and had four names that were about twelve consonants long, each. I showed the license to my boss and without skipping a beat he tells me that I have to call in the DL and tell the dispatcher that my computer is frozen, that I need the information read back. I could barely get the lie across on the radio without breaking down into laughter. Her terse response unraveled us all and the guy behind the wheel must've thought he had rolled into some movie set. We are so professional! But at least we know how to have fun.

Another eight with the S shift tonight, after some much needed cajoling and encouragement from a comrade. St. Michael, if tonight is the night that I am supposed to get into it, please let it be when Simon has cleared station is on the hunt with me. May the spirit of all my law enforcement kinfolk, blood and not, be out with me tonight. We live only to serve, help us to be effective in our mission.
